"Last night, Woowoo Ortiz passed away. I only met him once, and he seemed a decent sort. He was the frontman of 90's ska-pop band Tungaw, and he was studying to be a doctor.
His affliction was, I don't recall the name for it right now, but basically he had the measles, which eventually entered his brain and went undetected until it was too late. The last time I saw him it was at a birthday party of a friend, and he was a young, vibrant and strong fellow. The next time I saw him, he was a husk of a human being, barely hanging on via a respirator. It's always very sad for one to die that young."
i saw this at bluefur.blogspot.com aka IMODO.COM. i was shocked. i happen to have been hunting for Tungaw songs all over p2p-verse and cyberspace for quite a while. i had a cassette of them back then and i thought their music was genuinely, albeit querkily, refreshing. and this... this was an October 17, 2003 entry and i only learned of it now.
quite sad...

howdy! i just stumbled upon your blog when i did a google search for "tungaw". btw, i'm jing, and i used to play bass for tungaw. yes twas indeed tragic to lose a very good friend like woowoo. 3 or so years have passed since woowoo died of SSPE (a rare disease brought about by the complication of measles). mark, ryan & i still visit him at loyola memorial on his birthday (july 27). thanks so much for still keeping him in your hearts.
btw, here's a link to Hot Pandesal which i uploaded on my multiply account ready for download. enjoy! :D

hey glenn... i was google searching for tungaw too when i saw your blog entry. i was gladly surprised to see your name (it's been eons since, i hope you're doing great). i remember reading an obituary entry about a tungaw member in the up alumni newsletter, but i couldn't find that article anymore, so i was never sure about it. i always thought it was jing (sori jing, glad to see the hot pandesal link, out of tune na kasi yung cassette tape ko, but i still play it often), but at least now i know the real thing. just in time for woowoo's birthday. i guess i'll be playing my hot pandesal tape again that day...
